"The Issue"

Scholarship Award

CampusBin.com was developed to address the problem with textbook prices. We want to hear what you think about the "The Issue"

The issue

  • Textbook prices are out of control!
    • The average student spends about $900 per year on books; that is way too much!
    • Why is it that teachers place orders to only particular publishers and only particular campus bookstores?
  • Availability of information
    • Most of the time, book information is withheld until the day of class, when it is released on the syllabus.  Why do school bookstores get orders for books weeks in advance while students have to wait until the day of class to receive the book information?  This limits the student's ability to compare shop and save money.
  • Book Editions
    • What differs between editions six and seven?  Most of the time, maybe a paragraph worth of information.  Economically, what is the difference between edition six and seven?  Maybe an extra $100 because there are no used books for sale.
    • Why are publishers allowed to change editions to drive up prices when no pertinent information is changed? Have you noticed that main difference between example problems are just numbers, not problems themselves?
