  • How do I buy and sell books?

The two most common ways on Campusbin are to buy a book from another student or to buy a book from an internet retailer. The books bought and sold by other students at your school are done so in the same way as a classified ad. Internet retailers have their own systems that generally require credit cards.

  • Does this cost anything?

Users may post as many books as they want absolutely free. We charge no comission or fee and do not handle any of your money. Most people won't sell books for free, though, so you'll have to pay them.

  • My book is not showing up on search

Make sure you are looking at the right edition of your book. Different editions are currently not connected to each other, though this may change in the future. Also, make sure you have the correct school selected. If a post has been made with the incorrect school, you must change your user settings to the correct school, then edit each listing and save it to update its school to the correct one.

  • What is an ISBN?

An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique, internationally utilized number code assigned to books for the purposes of identification and inventory control (© Random House, Inc. 2006). We use this number to query your request and to manage our databases. Pictured below is how it is written on the back of your book.

  • Do I have to select a school?

For now, yes. Schools are currently the only way of linking people to a community within which they can trade books. If you don't have a school, you can select the closest one to you geographically.

  • I can't post my course packet

Course packs are not yet supported by CampusBin. We're still working on it.

  • There's a bug in the website

Please report it using the feedback link on the bottom.

  • My school is not listed

Please report it using the feedback link on the bottom.

  • Somebody agreed to buy my book but never showed up

We are working on a user feedback system with which you can give bad people bad reviews.

  • Someone is sending me offensive message or otherwise harassing me using the system

Please report this using the feedback link on the bottom

  • I'm not getting a confirmation email

Check your 'junk' or 'spam' folder. Some email filters might think we're spam. Please tell them we're not.

  • How should I make the trade?

We recommend that same-school sales are done in person in public places. By meeting in person you avoid potential problems (and extra cost!) with mailing payments and books. However, it's ultimately up to you.

Remember that not everyone has morals. Beware that there are people out there that want to exploit this opportunity. Keep your money hidden and books in bags to avoid public view. Bring a friend to the transaction and do it during daylight. It is also a good idea to bring your cellphone in case something goes wrong so you can contact emergency support. Good luck, and be careful!

  • How should I ship a book?

The US Postal Service has a special rate for books. They call it Media Mail. Generally, you should anticipate about $3.50 for the average hardcover textbook, plus the cost of an envelope or box.
